![]() Note-taking accommodations can get students access to presentations/slideshows if they arent already available to the students. ![]() im not sure if a similar accommodation exists for video. There is a drc accommodation for the Livescribe pen, which allows students to audio record lectures, but a release needs to be signed by the professor. ![]() they can try to advocate for anything for equitable education access, but if other students aren't getting video lectures, its very unlikely that drc students would get them either. if the professor doesnt want to do video lectures, there is really nothing the drc can do about that. ![]() in many asynchronous courses, there was no lecture component (or at least not by the prof, some had 3rd party videos). even during the pandemic, not all professors recorded videos. Video recording of lectures is very, very specific to the individual professors and students. but while the individuals who work for the drc would love to provide anything and everything we need, its not always withing their power. Okay so, I don't have all the answers on this (i don't work for the DRC, just with them) but I can tell you what I do know.įirst off, im personally very much in favour of this and i know many drc students are too (and non drc students!). Having notetakers has absolutely saved my ass when i've missed class because of pain flare-ups and if i'd had one when poly plague merc'd my compromised immune system first year, i might have even passed physics (okay.probably not). i have heard this from multiple people, lol. Plus, it'll motivate you to take notes/attend classes when you know someone else is relying on you. it's also a great way to be an ally to the disability community. Notetakers are crucial in helping level the playing field so all students can succeed in classes with their disabilities. follow the directions in a DRC email you've gotten OR check out the DRC webpage about it There's a video and everything. be a person who takes good, legible notes be a student who is willing to attend class What do you need to do to be a notetaker? the notetaker uploads takes a picture of their notes or uploads documents and the student receiving services can download them on their end. The drc (disability resource center) connects students with others in their classes indirectly through an online portal. Notetaking is an accommodation for students with disabilities that is really important! some students miss a lot of classes due to chronic illness or have trouble taking their own notes (they might have trouble using their hands, hearing/processing, etc). ik a lot of people ignore these bc they aren't sure what it means, but most ppl are very willing to do it once they know! Hey yall!! back at it again w the disability posts to tell yall to be a notetaker!! its about that time when the emails start rolling out asking you to be a notetaker for classes you're in. Thanks!
